Boa Dream Interpretation and Meaning
Traditional dream interpretation suggests that seeing a boa constrictor in a dream is a symbol of bad luck and hard times. But it could just mean that you’ve had a very hard day, giving you the change to release blocked emotions in a safe way.
A boa constrictor may suggest that you feel oppressed – “squeezed” or “suffocated” – by some relationship or situation in your life. It may be that you are ignoring your own feelings and should pay more attention to them. The boa could mean that the suffocation element is a part of your own personality and that you are trying to control a part of your self or even another person. The boa also suggests that you feel restricted in expressing your sexual feelings.
Apap, the symbol of Upper Egypt in ancient times, was probably based on the boa constrictor that lives in Southern Egypt. The snake, which was considered a repulsive creature, was used by the ancient priests to frighten and intimidate the uneducated masses of people in order to keep them in line. As such, the boa could indicate that you are trying to keep someone or something under your control.
In ancient Greece, Pithon (python) was a huge serpent, the child of the Earth Goddess, Gaia. It was made of the mud and slime left on earth after a huge flood. Pithon lived in a cave, guarding the Oracle of Delphi. No one dared to the approach the snake until Apollo descended from Mount Olympus and killed it with a single golden arrow from his silver bow. He was given the name Pythian Apollo and began the Pythian games, held every four years, in honor of his victory. Python is the ancient name for Delphi.
This myth suggests that the dream boa is a symbol of protection and guardianship. Heraldry uses Python as the depiction of winged serpents and non-poisonous snakes, where both the winged and wingless serpent symbolize guardianship as well. Python is often found in fairytales and myths guarding treasures or sacred places.
Because the boa constrictor is a snake, it is useful to consider the symbolism of snakes in general. The snake represents wisdom, but can also indicate strong ambition and a desire to overpower someone or something. The snake symbolizes healing, as well as creativity, birth, and growth. Religions tend to view the snake as either a healer or the devil. In general, when a snake appears in a dream it means that you will experience a death and rebirth in some area of your life – not actual death, but a transition or change in conditions. The snake may also mean that your creativity is about to be awakened.
