Mermaid Dream Interpretation and Meaning
Mermaid Dreams Have a Ripple Effect
If, last night, you dreamt of a mermaid, tough times could be ahead. In folklore, the mermaid is said to be a particularly bad omen; mermaids are known to both foretell disaster and to also provoke it.
To dream of the mermaid is to demonstrate an understanding that the ancients once possessed – that human beings are both one with and different from the animals. They knew, and you must (or at least your subconscious does), also that both our likenesses and differences with the earth’s other animals are both mysterious and profound. This realization should lead you to see that while there is a sense of strangeness here on earth, you do belong here.
If you dream of yourself as the mermaid, you may be examining your own vanity. Mermaids are known for their vanity – how many times have you seen an image of a mermaid brushing her long hair out while admiring her reflection in the surface of the water in which she dwells? Perhaps the mermaid is trying to point out your own beauty, which you have so far been unable to acknowledge.
If you see a mermaid at sea, she could be foretelling doom or disaster. When a mermaid speaks to a doomed ship, she tells them they will never get to see the land again. The mermaid in your dreams might not be foretelling your imminent death, but she is warning you of difficulties ahead. Mermaids have also been said to be a sign of rough weather, which you may interpret either literally or figuratively.
