Coyote Dream Interpretation and Meaning

The coyote is a complex dream symbol. On one hand, the coyote represents wisdom and being aware of the balance of Nature. It means surviving in all circumstances and maintaining a sense of humor. On the other hand, the coyote is a symbol of weakness, deception, hypocrisy, and meddling in things that aren’t your business.

If your dream includes being attacked by a pack of coyotes, or if several coyotes are threatening you, this is a warning that you need to be very careful and watchful in the near future. If you see a friendly coyote in the dream, it indicates that you are or will be deceived by someone close to you. Alternatively, the friendly coyote suggests that you will be able to get past any troubles that are keeping you from evolving psychologically.

The appearance of a coyote in a dream may symbolize a lack of ambition or a weakness of some kind. It may also  indicate that you are attacking those around you who are weaker and can’t defend themselves as well.

Coyotes represent “tricky” and unexpected elements in life. For Native Americans, the coyote is a creator, teacher, and a keeper of magic. The coyote is the Trickster God who appears as the Creator in many creation myths. The coyote is considered to be a messenger who has the ability to change his appearance. The coyote generally represents a sacred power.

If you see a coyote in your dream, it is a reminder to keep your sense of humor and not become overly serious in life. The coyote suggest that you need to learn how to balance wisdom with folly, as represented in some cultures by the figure of the “wise fool.” Coyotes in nature are very cooperative with one another, so the dream coyote may be telling you to be more cooperative with others and that you can accomplish great things through cooperation.

  1. This really helps with understanding more about the coyote. The dream it appeared to me last night was a little confusing and am not sure how to comprehend it fully. I was with a group of people and a coyote came over to us. Everyone was scared and someone said, just don’t move, let it sniff around and it’ll go. I had my martial arts wooden sword in my hand and was keeping as still as I can. It came over and sniffed around me several times and the sword. I felt fear but at the same time while looking at the coyote’s face, I felt it was such a beautiful creature. I knew it had come to me and for me for some reason. All of a sudden it grabbed the sword in its mouth and took it from me. Everyone panicked and stepped in closer together as to say, our group is stronger than you. A part of me did not want to join in the group, but as I did, sadness came over me that I had to face the coyote in such a battling way. It stared at us for a while and then started to leave. All of a sudden the coyote was a boy, a man maybe and I was holding his hand saying, “I love you and I am sorry that this is happening and that you have to go.” I wanted him to stay because I felt he needed help, but the group of people were afraid. All I did was say, “I love you” as he let go of my hand and rode off in a sort of carriage led by a pack of coyotes. The group of people couldn’t understand why I had done that.
Later on that day, we were at our house(I guess we all stayed together) and they were all preparing for a battle with the coyoteㄴ. I kept saying, “You see, you should have been nice to it, now it is coming to attack”

  2. I rarely dream, so I’m now trying to understand what this dream meant. I was with my daughter and her family and some of the ladies from my church. One of the ladies from the church noticed a coyote trying to sneak up on us. Moving from one side of the street to the next. We called for help and they came. However one man was standing in the field with the coyote digging a trench. We all wanted to let him know that he was trying to sneak upon him. He said to us I know so we asked him to try to scare him away with the shovel. His reply way no because they he will jump up at you. Out comes my son in law beating on the ground with an object and behind him was our family dog who died years ago and a couple of my grandkids. The crowd was screaming at him to stop but he would not. The coyote then with his eyes turning light fire jumped over the man digging the trench. He grabbed the dog at the throat and beheaded him, only his torso was left. After that everyone really disappeared except my family and myself. My daughter and I noticed several more coyotes came out of the woods attempting to surround us. We the went into an area of restrooms tried to call for those who had helped us to return to help us again. While in the restroom area my son in law comes to join us with my grandson to say that there are a pack of coyotes out there now and they are closing in. My reply was for him to take out his cell phone and call someone he knows to come and help us. His reply was he did he had called the ladies from the church and they were on there way. This is where my dream ended. Please help me in understanding exactly what this dream could have possibly meant?

  4. I’m deeply confused about the dream I had. It took place over I’m guessing several nights, and each night I would come out and feed this strange sickly coyote. On the last night I dreamed, the coyote stood up on 2 and appeared to be a muscular man with a snarling face. After that I was taken and I can’t remember the rest. It scared me and I’ve had a terrible headache since. I’m only 14 so I’m lost.

  5. I had a dream I was with this guy I just met.in this dream we were at his apartment. I started puking all over his house and before he went to clean it up he asked if I wanted to see his rabbit. a part of me mostly wanted to say no because I felt sick from puking but I said yes any way. he got the rabbit which was part robot. I said hey this isn’t a rabbit as he went around the corner. all of a sudden his apartment dissolved and he wasdown the street and I was still closer to the rabbit. suddenly a raccoon came to chase the rabbit and I’m scared of raccoons so I tried to run to my friend. but then I heard a dog snarl and a coyote came into view as I had started to run, cutting me off. that coyote then begin to approach me.I had a. bucket for puking in in my hand andand threw that at the coyote and it charged me and bit me under my left armpit and held on tight. and in the distance I could see my friend running away

  8. This was very enlightening. But I have had recurring coyote attack dreams since I was around 6 years old and I am now 18. I’m not sure what to do about it and they are extremely graphic terrifying nightmares. There are about three different recurring nightmares that I constantly have. Any thoughts? Please email me!

  9. What if you are being called Coyote in the dream? I don’t remember much of the dream. I was with a group of people and they kept referring to me as Coyote instead of my usual nickname. It was just unusual.

  10. coyote in my dream pees on my land claiming it as hers ; I open the door and yell at her to scare her off . A tomcat is now sitting in the yard purring and rubbing against a small sapling birch tree. I hesitate to call out to him to get him to safety…coyote comes back, they take two steps together and then coyote rips the head off the beautiful tomcat in my yard because I did not call to him to get him into the house for safety. I fell to the ground wailing and beating on mother earth over my perceived folly. There were two “opaque” coyotes watching from a distance to see what was going to happen. A voice stated basically ” Those who are stupid must suffer pain”…OMG…what is your interpretation of this? It was a vivid prophetic experience. I get that I should have taken in the cat…but what of the coyote marking her territory in my territory and killing that cat?
    thanks.

  13. Well my dream was a little weird to me. I was just sitting on a hill and a pack of coyotes appeared at the bottom of the hill. I thought nothing of them at the time, but a little while later my neighbors dog came over to them and became a coyote. The whole pack except for 2 left. Those two just kept staring at me for a while. I blinked my eyes very slowly, when I opened them I found I was face to face with the one that was my neighbors dog. I knew it was him somehow. He whimpered and walked away. And then I woke up.

I had a dream last night that I was with someone I don’t remember entirely but I had two paths to choose from and I chose this particular one that turned out to be dangerous and I was surrounded by coyotes and I remember being terrified and trying to figyre put what to do. Some of them were looking at me others were just walking and I thought if I run they’ll chase me so I was trying to walk slowly and then a couple were threatening and coming closer and everytime they did that I stopped walking and stood still and they were walking again I woke up honestly. I’m such a strong believer that all dreams mean something and have some kind of significance

The coyote was looking at me from where I was standing a hundred feet away, and he had a strong and caring look in eye and I was happy to have him there. He was so pretty.

  20. I just woke up from a really bad dream. I was walking up the street and it was covered in like two feet of dark green slime. I finally got up the hill and there was this huge like ten point buck standing in my best friends yard. I just stare at it as it looks at me and continues eating I try and get closer expecting it to run but it doesn’t. Her house is right by woods btw. I get up to it and say hi. It looks at me and says hi back. But it’s face is kind of abstract I YESS idk it’s fur looks fake. And eventually he comes over and we start talking and we have a conversation br I hear a growl and I stand up walk towards her porch because I’m scared and then he says we all knew this was going to happen and he scowls at me as I jump inside her house locking and slamming the door. A coyote comes rushing out of the woods and BRUTALLY dismembers the deer seconds after I slam the door shut. Guts went everywhere and her door almost gave in. What do this mean I can’t sleep

  21. I had a dream of a coyote last night. At first he was on the friendly side then bit my right arm. He didn’t bite hard enough to cause damage but almost like a warning bite. The weird thing is the next morning, the first thing I saw was a coyote.

    Just a weird coincidence?

  22. I’ve just had a dream where I was home with my brother and my grandparents. I am only 5 and my brother is 13 and both grandparents were sleeping. It was starting to get dark and this animal that resembled a coyote ran past the front of the house and my dog started barking at it. (She is a small dog that likes barking at everything but if the other dog starts to try and attack she falls on the floor defenseless). The coyote turns its head for a second to see and leaves. About 5 minutes later I look out the window again to see it sitting outside in the yard staring into the window. I quickly see if the door is locked and somehow it is unlocking the door and pushing it open. As I try to fight against it so it can’t come in and hurt anyone I call to my brother to help me. He just stays sitting on the couch doing nothing and I beg him to help. I told him to run to the kitchen and get a knife or something and he tells me to use the gun next to me. I turn around and see a handgun on the small table next to me. I’I’ve never owned or fired a gun in my life but did not really care at the time. I reached for it but realized that if I let one hand go I would start to have less force on the door so the coyote would get in. In the same second I grab the gun the coyote gets in and I wake up. Something’s in real life that happened around the same time is that that day before the dream, I took my dog out for a walk and this small white dog came up trying to approach my dog. My dog like always starts barking like crazy but the other dog just keeps trying to get her silently. All I really could do what shoo it away until the owner from across the street came to get him. Another strang thing is obviously that I had never owned a gun yet there was one right on the table. Both my grandparents went to Mexico 2 weeks before today, but we have been recently staying home alone as my parents left to go to but groceries.

  23. This is helpful in someways and other ways, not. I recently in the past half year or so, have been having vivid dreams of wolves or cototes, and in the dreams I stand in my yard or a yard, and the wolf or coyote, walks up while watching me closely, and places it’s muzzle in my hand. It never averts it’s gaze, and only watches for a few seconds though, then bolts off into the woods. it’s odd because the whole pack of animals comes to visit and only one approaches. I’m not sure what this means but i’ve been highly curious come of lately.

  25. My dream involved seeing one coyote at first, I was outside my father’s house at night when his dogs began to bark and whine. He began bringing them in when I saw the first coyote coming towards the house. We use those snappers from fourth of July to scare it away, when they lit up you could see the eyes of a few more coyotes in the distance. I remember feeling scared and anxious. Is there anyway to find out what this means

Sometimes I’m not alone, sometimes there’s another person in another stall. I don’t know what to do. This dream is horrible. Thanks!!

  29. This is for Ann. I’m not sure where you are spiritually or in your ministry but this could also represent you watching out for people. Sometimes coyotes can be evil spirits or demons. You were warning someone else and then they came after you and your family. That’s exactly what the devil does. When you start to mature or go higher with God, the more the attacks. The ladies coming from the church can also be a representation of them helping you or guiding you through these spritual attacks. Just remember the higher you go, the more angels also. 😉

I immediately went into fighting mode and some how killed one of the coyotes and used it to bite the rest of the coyotes. I then got my family and ran into the bathroom where the coyotes started to surround but then a man came and scared them away.

  34. I just had a dream about a coyote two nights ago. My sister, mom, and I were hiking in the mountains when this lady appeared in from of us. She was covered in all types of furs, probably the ones of her enemies. She gestured to a sign in front of us. It was an informative sign about coyotes, except that I couldn’t read the writing. She said, “Pay me, and you may pass. Ignore me, and you will face the wrath of my children.” Naturally we tried to offer her all sorts of things: cash, granola bars, etc. But she accepted none of these. Eventually we just pushed past her. We walked for a while and came across a large white mansion. We stepped inside, and found the furniture to also be covered in a multitude of furs. The woman was on a balcony above us, with a pack of coyotes behind her. She said something to them in another language (Russian?) and they moved forward menacingly, bearing their fangs. We ran outside. They followed us, snapping their jaws and tearing our clothes. We were surrounded, and so we tried to run back inside, but inside the woman was just cackling and the coyotes just kept coming.

This was where I woke up, shivering and sweaty. I still don’t know who that woman was or why those coyotes were there.
