Layla gained popularity in 2016 when they released a flippable mattress. Their mattresses feature a soft feel on one side and firm on the other, allowing the customer to buy a mattress, and flip it over to their preference. Over the past few years, Layla has added things to their product, such as sheets, pillows, pet beds, and weighted blankets. The Layla weighted blankets are unique to the market because the blanket and duvet are one. Both sides of the blanket have a different fabric that makes it reversible depending on the season. But is it an excellent weighted blanket? Like all weighted blankets we review, we tested the Layla for five nights in this Layla weighted blanket review will go over the features, how to choose the right size, and discuss our experience using it while sleeping.

“We believe a stress blanket should feel like a dozen puppies.”

Why use a weighted blanket?

Weighted blankets reduce anxiety and stress as well as improve overall sleep quality. The blankets provide a Deep Touch Pressure, which is a uniform pressure across the whole body that feels similar to a gentle hug. The pressure releases serotonin in your body, which is calming and helps you sleep better. Those who suffer from anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, restless leg syndrome, or those who have autism find the most benefits from using a weighted blanket.

Choosing the right Layla blanket

Choosing the right weight for a weighted blanket is essential to get the full benefits. The recommended weight of a blanket should be 10% of your body weight. However, the Layla blankets are sized based on the mattress rather than the weight of your body. While the weight of the weighted blankets increases, so does the surface area of these blankets. Keep in mind that the dimensions of weighted blankets as it related to Twin, Queen, King is to the top surface of the blanket. These weighted blankets will not go over the edge of the bed. Most comforters have an extra foot or two on each side, so when a couple is using it, it won't feel like you are competing for the blanket.

Some third-party reviewers recommended they wished they purchased king size blanket for a queen bed. However, to get the most benefit of a weighted blanket considering buying a twin/duvet that is weight specific to your body size. Below are the sizes/measurements of the Layla weighted blankets.

Queen20 lbs60” x 80”$149 Check Price

Material

The Layla weighted blanket was designed in the USA and manufactured in China. While very stylish, the blanket is currently only in one color, grey. The blanket features two very distinct sides. The top of the weighted blanket is a plush 100% polyester mink that feels soft to the touch. The bottom of the blanket is 300 thread count 100% cotton. The cotton allows for more breathability and makes the blanket usable for more times during the year. Being able to flip the blanket over to keep warmer or cooler is an advantage of the Layla weighted blanket. With that said, the polyester mink feels excellent, but it is not the most breathable fabric option.

The blanket pattern is a series of hexagon pockets with the high-density micro glass beads. The pockets keep the weight evenly distributed and comfortable. The hexagon pattern is stylish and a lot more unique than a standard grid pattern. The glass beads are between two layers of poly batting. The batting keeps the glass beads from bunching and also keeps the glass beads quiet. Unlike other weighted blankets, this blanket is one piece and does not require a duvet cover.

The one-piece weighted blanket has pros and cons. We like it because, in other weighted blankets we have reviewed, the duvet cover gets pulled away from the weighted blanket. And because the blanket itself contains the glass beads, they go all the way to the edge, so there is no gap in the duvet vs. blanket itself. However, blanket care is more difficult because of the size and weight compared to washing just a duvet cover.

Weighted Blanket Care

The entire Layla weighted blanket is washable in a washing machine. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, and do not iron. Depending on the size of your washer or dryer, it might be easier to bring a queen or king blanket to the dry cleaner. Some users may also find their washers or dryers may struggle with the weight of the blanket when used in a home machine.

Our experience with Layla weighted blanket

The microfiber was plush and felt nice on the skin. We kept the microfiber on top and the cotton on the bottom. It remained cool, and we did not overheat at night. After five nights using the weighted blanket, we enjoyed the benefits of the weighted blanket. It almost makes your body move less when using the blanket. As a side-sleeper flipping sides while under the weighted blanket requires more effort, and I noticed it the first few nights. But after a few nights, I didn't flip my body as many times per night. It wasn't because it was too difficult. I'd like to think it was because the weighted blanket was doing its job by providing more comfort and a more profound comfort while sleeping.

We tried out the Queen weighted blanket, which weighs 20 pounds. My partner and I vary in weight by about 60 pounds. Split between two people, we were each getting about 10 pounds of pressure on our bodies. Usually, I would want a 15 pound blanket for myself. It's a downside of choosing a weighted blanket that spans the entire bed, definitely consider the bodyweight requirements of each of the sleepers.

One other issue we found as it relates to the size was that the queen blanket just fits the top of the queen mattress. A typical comforter extends typically well beyond the edge of the bed. One solution is to cuddle (Nothing wrong with a cuddle). But for those who tend to fight over a standard-sized comforter, consider getting two separate blankets. It allows each sleeper to pick one for their body weights. Another option is to purchase the king size weighted blanket, which will give each sleep a bit more blanket as well as another few pounds of glass beads.

The blanket was soft enough to want to use it for cuddling on a chair or couch.

Summary

The Layla weighted blanket is crafted with quality materials and feels like it will last a long time. The hexagon pockets are stylish, and with the poly batting, the glass beads are quiet, and the weighted blanket is balanced. Dual-sided fabrics should provide a wide range of use throughout the year. The blanket is washable, which should make caring for it easy (if it fits in your washer/dryer).
